OUR MISSION

“We are stepping into the story of God and ways of Jesus for the sake of Cape Town.”

We step into the story of God—stretched out from the beginning to the end of the Bible and of history. This story crescendos with Jesus who comes to rescue people and renew creation. It is a story that Jesus calls “the kingdom of God”—the liberating inbreaking of God’s goodness and reign into a dark and deformed world. We seek first this kingdom—being transformed by it, and becoming envoys and agents of it.

We step into the ways of Jesus—modeled and taught by the Master himself, they are a much better way to be human than anything society and history have churned up. Walking in the ways of Jesus encompasses but is not limited by our involvement in church life. We’re just as interested in commissioning change agents and culture shapers in society as we are leaders in our church. We seek to re-present Jesus to the people in the city God has placed us in.

Stepping into the story of God and the ways of Jesus, we are led by the Spirit to see our church strengthened and our city served. As a community, we honour our past, even while we follow the pillar of cloud and fire into our future. We’re clear about who we are and why we’re here even while we expectantly and curiously anticipate what God will still do in and through us.

OUR VALUES

Spirit-led worship and encounter.

Jesus said, “The time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way … For God is Spirit.” (John 4:23-24). So, we love to slow down and savour God’s goodness and presence through singing in our weekly gatherings.

Authentic community.

Jesus said, “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” (John 13:34-35) So, we enjoy meals with each other, get real with each other, and gather in Night Clubs (our name for small groups).

Practicing the prophetic.

The apostle Paul said, “Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives—especially the ability to prophesy.” (1 Cor 14:1) So, whether we are gathered or scattered, as God directs us to minister to others, we invite the inbreaking of God’s power and voice.

Rooted in Scripture and kingdom theology.

Jesus said, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free,” (John 8:31-32) and, “it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.” (Luke 12:32) So, we enjoy God’s Word on our own and prioritize sound biblical teaching and good theology that centers on Jesus and his kingdom.

Intergenerational, cultural diversity, and gender equality.

God promised, “I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters … Your old men will dream dreams, your young men see visions. In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on … men and women alike.” (Joel 2:28-29) So, we invest in ministry to kids and teens, and build relationships across generational lines; we celebrate cultural diversity; and we encourage mutual submission in marriages, and our leadership and preaching teams consist of women and men.

Welcoming and generous.

Jesus said, “Freely you have received, freely give” (Matt 10:8) and stretched out his arms on the cross to take the whole world in. So, we welcome people into our lives and open our wallets, calendars, and homes to God’s mission. What we have is too good to keep to ourselves—so we extend ourselves to introduce others to Jesus Christ.
